GAMEINDEX Members at DiGRA 2026

In June 2026, members of GAMEINDEX participated in the DiGRA 2026 Conference, held at Maynooth University, Ireland (14–18 June).

Three of our PhD researchers presented their work as part of the Doctoral Consortium, showcasing ongoing research on the representation of space, landscape, and regions in digital games:

  • Štěpán Šanda: Digital Forests, Meadows, Towns: Representation of Landscape in Czech Digital Games
  • Cullan Bendig: The Social Production of Space Between Global Play and Local Production in Southern European Digital Games
  • Anika Falkenberg: Playing As More Than Just a Continent: Representation of Southeast Asia in Video Games

In addition, Jan Švelch presented findings from the GAME-ER research project in the paper Balancing In/formality within the Brno Video Game Industry Ecosystem.

Jaroslav Švelch also organized the DiGRA workshop Politics of Indexicality in Digital Game Production. It explored how indexical representation in digital games intersects with capitalism, (post)colonialism, and identity politics, reflecting the conference theme “Intersectional Pleasures.”
