Nordic DiGRA 2025

At the 2025 Nordic DiGRA conference, which took place in Turku between May 26 and May 28, Jan Houška presented a paper titled Comparing game work migration in Finland, Czech Republic, and South Korea. The paper was co-authored by post-doctoral researcher Solip Park and included a data comparison of interviews with expatriate and remote game workers employed in the three respective countries. The paper focused on the discussion of the global features of game development (e.g., third-party game engines) and local features of the three countries (e.g., use of national languages, local hiring practices) and how both features impact work conditions and mobility intentions of internationals. The paper also addressed the openness of the game studios located in the three countries to internationals’ input.

The Nordic DiGRA 2025 conference was organized by the Finnish Society for Game Research in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence in Game Culture Studies.
