Two Papers by PGPS Members in the Latest FROG Anthology

The 2024 FROG Conference Anthology have just been published, featuring two new contributions from Leonid Moyzhes and Štěpán Šanda.

In Proliferation of Cults in Post-Apocalyptic Videogames, Leonid Moyzhes examines the representation of cults in post-apocalyptic games, focusing on Metro: Exodus. He shows that despite their stylistic and ethical differences, all cults in the game primarily function as tools of social engineering, implicitly contrasting “normal” modernity—embodied by the player characters—with any alternative framed as deceptive or manipulative. The text can be read HERE.

In Gradual Disappearance of the Old Apocalypse in Eastern European Games, Štěpán Šanda explores transformations of post-apocalyptic landscapes in Eastern European game production. Through close readings of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Metro 2033, and DayZ, he argues that these landscapes mirror the ongoing processes of post-communist transformation and the region’s specific geopolitical experience.
