GDS 2025: How to Grow and Develop Sustainable Game Industry Clusters

At the Game Developers Session conference, which took place in Prague on December 5-6, 2025, Jan Houška attended the panel discussion “How To Grow And Develop Sustainable Game Industry Clusters”, as part of the GAME-ER project. After the introduction of the GAME-ER project, the invited panellists, Roman Hladík (general manager of Hangar 13 and chairman of Brno Game Cluster) and Petr Slaný (founder of Game Devs Ostrava), discussed the challenges of growing and sustaining video game clusters in the Czech cities of Brno and Ostrava. Panellists and the audiences further debated on the issues of informal and communal governance of smaller video game ecosystems and discussed the organisation of local community events such as game development conferences and student festivals.

Game Developers Session (GDS) began in 2003 as a community event and is the oldest Central European festival dedicated to game development. GDS closely cooperates with Czech universities and schools, and features renowned speakers who cover art, business, design, education, marketing, programming, and other topics.
